Even if we could develop all of these Arctic sources, the clear consensus is that we need to wean ourselves from fossil fuels to avoid the types of catastrophic climate change that could cause some, er, unpleasant problems for many of us.  Today I saw an article about DC being under water.  I guess that would be well-deserved!

Tell us, Mr. Nelder -- how many tons of CO2 would all this oil put into the atmosphere?  How much methane would emanate from a melting arctic as these fossil fuels are burnt and the impacts of warming are felt the most at high latitudes?

The fact is, even if we could get to and exploit all that oil, it&#039;s really not a very good idea.</description>
