Thanks for your comment, David. If you have any suggestions beyond what I have offered on how to "clearly define the acceptable technology and resource pathways" and turn this issue around in ten years or less, I am all ears!

Chris
You described the extreme views on the energy debate quite well, but your ten points are much too pessimistic. With proper policy framework in place that mobilizes American inginuity we can turn this issue around in ten years, or less.

But we have to get the policy right and that policy has to clearly define the acceptable technology and resource pathways. Unfortunately too many narrowly focuses advocates dominate all sides of this debate and nobody in power has shown me the statesmanship needed to publicize and implement REAL solutions. Even though he is right on the money, T Boone is too polarizing; he just reinforces gridlock in WDC.

I learned the hard way (www.bruderly.com) that liberal Democrats don't care about real solutions any more than the oil guys you describe. Democratic pols also follow the money; that's why electric vehicles are suddenly all the rage and the natural gas / hydrogen pathway has been relegated to the back of the bus.

Chris, great article.

While reading your description of how the O&G industry is in its conceptual bubble and the environmentalists are in their bubble, the phrase "group think" came to mind.

Each group has assumptions that they hold to be absolute truths and these assumptions shape how they view the world.

Putting each in a room long enough to quietly but firmly deconstruct their most-cherished assumptions would do a world of good right now.
