I keep hoping that the US will (re)awaken to the beauty of rail as a commuting and long-distance solution, but it just doesn't seem to be in the cards. Here in Cali, we recently passed a bond measure for high-speed rail line from San Fran to LA, but it's really only the first half of the necessary funding and I can envision a gorgeous, TGV-style train departing from San Francisco and terminating in...Bakersfield.
