(I'm not picking on Obama - McCain would be planning something similar.) Don't you think that this is rather short-sighted as more roads, which takes huge amounts of energy to build, means more driving, which only exacerbates the Peak Oil problems? I would rather see the $700B used to truly create new areas of construction - wind farms, very large solar panel arrays, mass transit systems, even breeder reactors (politically may never come to pass), etc., as well as R&D in alternative energy. Do we have to wait for another major crisis before our culture actually changes?
